Guest Rick Research Posted August 11, 2008 Share Posted August 11, 2008 That is most likely because the white metal or brass the clasps are made from "wears" better than the model kit paint slapped on the cast iron Friedrich August Crosses.Unlike the Prussian Iron Crosses whose black finish was, I think, baked on, these Oldenburg Crosses were finished cold so they looked crappy even at the time.
