John R Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) This just showed up on a dealer site. We have talked about this before someplace--maybe 4 or 5 years ago. I think this is a fake and I think I see a casting line in the last image. All of these badges look very similar--sloppy to my eyes.Anyway, opinions requested. Gordon Williamson Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 We had a discussion on these a little while back http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2350...hl=scholz+fleetI'm still on the fence with these and don't buy into it being a problem that it uses different hardware than other AS stuff. I have always thought that basing an ID of a maker solely on the hardware on a badge, or that every badge by a certain maker should have identical hardware is a dangerous practise.Have to say though that the general quality (or lack of) in terms of the sharpness of detail is what worries me, so though I wouldn't condemn them outright, I am leaning more towards them being bad than being good and decided not to feature this type in the book. For me it goes into the decidedly suspect list with things like the "Steinhauer" 1st Pattern E-Boats etc and double marked Souval badges.
John R Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 Forgot about that thread and I started it! Anyway, new images with new angles to look at for this badge. John
