Guest Rick Research
Picked this up among today's show finds here in post-hurricane Southern Canada. Since this is a "commemorative" medal, I wonder what the "jubilee" year being "celebrated " in 1962 actually was-- 1947?As usual, no information but the name and obvious issue year of the medal. There is a microscopic "RPR" on the flag's national seal.
Carol I
Since this is a "commemorative" medal, I wonder what the "jubilee" year being "celebrated " in 1962 actually was-- 1947?This medal did not have the word "commemorative" in the name. It was established as the medal "In honour of finishing the collectivization of agriculture" through decree no. 290 published in Buletinul Oficial no. 10 of 12.05.1962. Guest Rick Research
Ahhhhhhhh. It never occurred to me that 1962 was the year coillectivization happened-- I assumed that had taken palce in the 1940s. Do you know who received this medal? Once again, no information on rules or regulations. But it is a very attractive medal... which is why I have been drawn to "RPR" era awards. It never occurred to me that 1962 was the year coillectivization happened-- I assumed that had taken palce in the 1940s.It was declared completed in 1962. It started in the end of 1940s after some reforms that distributed land to the peasants (in order to gain their support). It then occured in several steps. Apparently there were several rebellions during the time which even interrupted the process. There was not much publicity around them for obvious reasons and only in the past years information started to surface.Do you know who received this medal? Once again, no information on rules or regulations. I do not have the text of the decree, so I cannot help. :(
Carol I
By the way, there is an anniversary medal for collectivization, "25 years since the finishing of the collectivization of agriculture in the Socialist Republic of Romania", established in 1987. I think it was the last medal of the regime.
Guest Rick Research
 Are these common medals over there? I'm wondering if every lucky "kolkoznik" (as they were in the Soviet Union) got one, or if these were reserved for the political bosses. So much to learn! You may have to ask Kevin how often do they appear at fairs.
