It is indeed a real enamel wreath. I thought it was also a nice touch to use one blue ribbon, instead of 2, for the LS awards!

Of those awards, the Lifesaving Medal (which the Nazis hated) would have been first.

Rick, please forgive my ignorance, but why was the Life Saving medal 'hated'?

I have no explanation for the Nazis' irrational disdain of lifesaving awards. There is simply no other way to understand "why" they took the pre-eminent civil award and slammed it back behind a Hindenburg Cross in precedence regulations .

Recipients very often simply kept their justifiably prized award where it had been BEFORE the Third Reich.
