Guest Rick Research Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I regret this appears to be yet another of the tidal wave of Frankenstein bars being mass produced these days. The Gold Merit Cross with Crown was given to junior officers/warrant officer types-- and there it is on the PEACETIME ribbon, ahead of a Silver II Bravery Medal... with an NCO's VI Years Service Cross and NCO's Red Cross Medal with War Decoration...on post-1938 German style mounting...in the flat bottomed style beloved of the lazy fakers. So depending on what you paid for it-- Gold Merit Crosses with Crowns don't grow on trees-- if it didn't cost what the loose awards cost you... keep it. Otherwise-- send it back. It's still possible to find original Austrian trifold ribbons, so this is salvageable with time and patience.

Guest Rick Research Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Since catalogs-- lovely, permanent, TREND TRACKABLE printed catalogs became extinct... I have not had a clue what today's retail on anything happens to be. All I can go by is whether something is readily available or not.
hunyadi Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 In Hungary the Gold Merit Cross w Crown on an original trifold ribbon would go for about $250-$300 depending on the dealer, condition, maker marks,etc...The Red Cross award would go for about $100-150The VI service cross about $30-50The Silver Barvery about $25-30Mind you this is Hungary where these are pretty common so adjust value acordingly.
