    That's a great nazi HP-35!

I really enjoy this one and I considered as one of the best pistols ever made.

I'm still looking for one in decent shape down here in South America, but it has been a tough mission.

    Congratulations,

    Douglas

Maybe you would like to buy this one!

I would love to have it, but it is impossible: I live overseas and we are not allowed to import guns like this HP35.

    Thanks anyway!

Sorry about that but if things keep going as they seem to be it won't be long before we here are in the same boat.

Well, can you believe that I just found myself a nice nazi HP35 rig? It's a very late war production pistol, bearing a nice patina overall. Used but not abused.

    I'm happy as a clown!

I have one with ser. # 170437. Has anyone got an idea of when it would have been made? It has the eagle and swastika on the left side slide and just below the slide release.

I got it to replace the new one I bought to take to Viet Nam in 1969. I had to smuggle it into the country in the bottom of my shaving kit.

Funny you should say that Hugh - they reckon the mud in Durban Harbour is full of Lugers ! Dropped overboard from the returning troopships when they found Customs were searching for illegal weapons...

This is an entertaining thread - full of good info..

Well, I brought that one home as a war trophy. I had a nice AK-47, as well as an .30 carbine, but was "persuaded" by my XO to trade the AK (which was not eligible for war trophy status) for the promise of an SKS (which was). Naturally, the SKS never materialized (They were getting pretty scarce by then), so I chose the 9MM. It was stolen from our house some years later.

    Hugh,

Sorry for my delay to answer you. This is what I've been told regarding the HP35 dating:

".... 'a' block was made in 1943 and the 60k+ "b" block was made in 1944 up to when the germans abondoned the factory in in late aug 1944.

Since there were 100K "a" block pistols over the 12 months, assuming linear production, an average of 8k+ were made each month.

Remember the germans took the the factory on may 29 1940. They started production at serial number 50,000 and went up to around 212,000 before starting the "a" suffix numbering. This is 160,000 pistols for 1/2 of 1940, 1941 and 1942 or 30 months for an average of 5+k per month. Compared to 160,000 pistols for 1943 and 8 months of 1944 or 20 months for an average of 8+k per month. This is odd production out put."

Thanks for this. I'll get out my abacus and figure out an estimated production month.

    Hugh

The abacus says around May '42.
