Cholm Shield

Hi All,

Have a look at this Cholm Shield I've had since the mid 80s. Came in a vets bring back tin with a dozen or so other medals.

At some point its lost its silver finish.

Still love it though

Hi There,

The four prong versions that exist are usually made of zinc or a non-magnetic alloy and are the replacement or LDO duplicate pieces. The three prong steel version being the initial award pieces.

The shape of the feathers on the eagles head looks like he's wearing a "helmet" thus the name.

Agreed....A well known fake. I doubt a Panzer backed Cholm shield even exists, if there was one it would probably be devoid of any cloth.

Hi.....The elements of XXXXIX Armee Korps who liberated the Cholm defenders weren't eligible for the shield.

Hi, Out of the 5617 awarded, at least 69 Cholm shields were issued on panzer backing - mainly to 3./Pz.Jag.Abt.30
