shaneos3 Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Hello there, This is an unmarked observers badge that is fairly worn. Has anyone seen this type of hinge before?Regards, Shaneos3http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_05_2009/post-6660-1242454161.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_05_2009/post-6660-1242454170.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_05_2009/post-6660-1242454182.jpg
J Temple-West Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Hi Shaneos3As with the other two badges you've posted...another fake, I'm afraid! This one is a cast copy of an Assmann Observer badge. F.W Assmann did produce late badges with this type of cast-in hinge, but these were injection moulded and the reverse of the wreath should show circular ejection marks. Also, the rivets and catch are nothing like those produced by the firm of F.W Assmann on their late examples.
shaneos3 Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 J Temple-West,Thankyou for your feedback. I will steer clear of this one.Regards, Shaneos3
Guest Darrell Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 J Temple-West,Thankyou for your feedback. I will steer clear of this one.Regards, Shaneos3I assume these are not your's? It seems like they are all from the same person / dealer. Rather than staying clear of the examples you posted .. I'd steer clear of whoever is trying to sell them.
shaneos3 Posted May 18, 2009 Author Posted May 18, 2009 Darrel, The first two unfortunately are mine, the Third unmarked observer is currently for sale at a local shop.Regards, Shaneos3
J Temple-West Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 How long have you had them?Contact the person/dealer who sold them to you and see if they can be returned for a refund...It's worth the effort!
shaneos3 Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 I have had doubts about these badges for a couple of years but the guy I bought them off says that they are real as they are "so well made, dont look like obvious replicas" and the pilots engraving is in "old german'" so I will write them off as a learning mistake but not buy anything else off him. Thanks All for your info. Regards Shaneos3(Any one can make a mistake but only a fool makes the same mistake twice)
J Temple-West Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Believe me, we've all been there. And the person who tells you that they havn't......... Anyway, two good things have come out of the experience, shaneos3. You have two nice new shiny fishing lures (good for your part of the world) and you've found the GMIC which should hopefully dramatically cut down the odds of the same thing happening again.onward and upwards.
