Any ideas regarding the unusual underlay piping?

It's M1915 for various Garde regiments, but looks to me like all the devices have been changed, by the look of the other holes.

Rick's right about the silver lace. Unless this board was cut off of the shoulder, it would be impossible for the lower pip to be in that position, since this appears to be a sew-in board. (How's that for a run-on sentence?!).

Regarding the extra holes in the back, it might be useful to know that none of the regiments that had this cypher were authorized to wear the silver lace (for Prussian/Baden infantry, only the 1st Garde Rgt.zu Fu? and the Leib Gren.Rgt. Nr.109 had it).

    Thanks guys,

it appears to be an altered board. I lifted the cypher and noticed that there is an imprint of the crown underneath. It looks like the crown was moved up and the FR cypher added. Also the pips were moved apart.

Here is the question: Since it has been clearly altered recently, should I restore it back to it's original configuration?

Well, I went ahead and did it. I used existing holes and put the crown and pips on the old shadows - No new holes were added.

(I used larger pips - since the ones that were on the board did not fully cover the old imprints)
