charlie whall Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) Hi folks, I just joined tonight and must say there are some incredibly impressive peices here-especially Bob Lyons' collection, just amazing! I am looking to buy an original visor cap metal eagle (early) and am really having trouble finding one. Would anyone on these forums be able to sell or direct me in the direction of a seller? I live in Cambridge UK.And a couple of questions: At what point did the eagle change from the drooped version to the later 'swoop' tail version? Also, I notice the white top summer visor caps had the metal eagle, did the regular Officer caps only have the cloth insignia or sometimes metal? Is there a definative reference to Lutwaffe caps anywhere?Sorry for all the questions, I am looking to start my own collection soon! Many thanks for any help! Edited June 8, 2009 by charlie whall
Gene Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 The droop tail is called the 1935 pattern with the second version coming out in 1937. Many caps were made after 1937 that utilized the 1935 pattern eagle, because of existing stock as well as customer preference. These cap eagles are around, usually in the $50-$70 range, in nice shape with prongs intact.
