Gordon Williamson
Model aircraft are not usually my thing but I couldn't resist having a go at this one because of its submarine connections. Its the Focke Achgelis "Bachstelze" which was carried on some of the so-called Type IX "Monsun Boats".Model is by a Czech firm in mixed media, moulded plastic, polyurethane resin, etched brass and some scratch builing for the wiring/cables etc. Scale is 1/48 so it is pretty tiny, just 8cm long

Guest Rick Research
I've never seen what an original looks like, but is this yet another example of idiotic distortion of history-- can't even get a correct swastika decal for the tail marking? Gordon Williamson
Rick,I know exactly what you mean, and such "sanitizing" is common in the world of model aircraft, but NOT in this case. As you can see from this rare U-Boot Archiv photo, the Balkenkreuz and not the Swastika was used on the tail fin.
Gordon Williamson
And on others there appear to be no markings at all.
Guest Rick Research
Ah, false alarm then. I wouldn't have thought ANY makings were needed at all-- after all-- they launched from a surfaced sub and it ( hopefully!!! ) returned to a surfaced sub...so who ELSE'S chair with propellers COULD one have been, flying around overhead in the middle of an ocean? :cheeky:
Eric JB
Very nice and interesting model. Must like it as I like those Monsun Boots too.
