John R Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 (edited) The badge on the left is Martin W.'s fine HSF badge. The one on the right and the additional single images are of a badge just posted on WAF. If it is not a fake, it is a badge that has been seriously degraded somehow. Like to get an opinion here on this one.John Edited July 12, 2009 by John Robinson
Gordon Williamson Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 IMO a genuine original wartime made piece, but just in very poor condition. What I specifically like is the way the reverse finish is flaking away from the underlying base metal in places on the reverse.I recently had a very early first type Scherin Destroyer in Tombak which was ground dug and the degredation to the finish matched this almost exactly.
John R Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 Thanks Gordon. Mike Kenny weighed in and stated it was an original also. I think the first images posted that I used in the side by side comparison indicated pitting when it was actually flaking as seen in the subsequent images.John
