From a very nice photoalbum of the RAD, I took out these shots of members of the early FAD ( Freiwilliger Arbeitsdienst ).

They all were made between 1930 and 1934.

Seems they could wear whatever they want.

Finally the Arbeitsf?hrer with the SS officer's buckle that I posted already

Just a presumption - in the years before 1934, you see a lot of photos of FAD men with single or double claw buckles.

Maybe those who were already members of other organisation such as Stahlhelmbund or SA, were allowed to wear their buckles with the FAD service dress ???

    Kind regards

    Hello Robert,

Thank you for posting these stunning photos. Actually, and there is confirmation from period sources for this, there was never any official FAD buckles. All the varied FAD-type design buckles out there were designed and sold by the manufacturers on their own initiative. One of the guys in your photographs is wearing the most common of these. Your photos clearly show, moreover, that FAD members would wear any old buckle they already had from another organisation they belonged to.

    Best regards,

    Kurt

Hello Robert! I absolutely love those pics and the closeups! Many thanks! It's very cool to see that before the '36 introduction of the RAD buckle - these guys wore all kinds of buckles! Lots of variants in the SA buckles as well with static and sunwheel swastikas present. My favorite shot is the one with the Stahlhelmbund buckle!

Thanks again for posting these! Very cool!

    Hello there,

Interesting photo and just goes to show you that sometimes regulations just were not followed, even by Officers.
