    That's also the incendiary grenade, called variously the Brandgranate, Brandhandgranate, or Flammenkugel.

    Any idea if it is the same grenade as the one I have pictured? I am still not sure of how mine fits into the picture...

    The "flame ball" was identical to the smoke grenade. There's no way to tell them apart except by their guts.

    Did they actually put gas in them?? I didnt know they would have a gas grenade. What would they use? Chlorine or phosgene?

    Actually, they used tear gas. The Russians had a toxic gas grenade, but it wasn't effective because grenade heads couldn't hold enough of the agent.

    A small amount of tear gas can effect a trench full of soldiers without gas masks, but a small amount of poisonous gas will dissipate quickly.
