Too small, distant and blurry to read. :(

Over in the German medal bar thread you had a closer partial view of the side with shaking hands and sickle (NOT the communist embem-- I suspect something agrarian) that had initials and what appeared to be the word "Souvenir" underneath that.

The fellow in the furs will reveal all if you can get that straight on close and focussed.

Background, for those who missed the German medal bar thread, is this was among items brought back from Germany by an American soldier in 1945.

The language here is post 1917 Ukrainian. I'm no sure when all the orthographic changes went through, but say no earlier than the 1920s. The colors are those of the old Ukraine, blue and yellow.

On the front is "1814 Taras Grigorievich Shevtenko 1861" for the short-lived fellow's birth and death dates.

On the back it says top and bottom, "In memory of the Siich (Cossacks)." ("Siichova Pamyatka") The initials on the star are left upper: R, right upper: U, left lower: R, and right lower: P. Not sure in what order they were meant to be read, but they are aligned as if that order to "read" them.

I saw this or sale recently, can't remember where.

But it is some sort of veteran badge, or "emigr?" badge for Ukranians in the US

It was sold with the original medal envelope from a US manufacturer

Aaargh, if only I could remeber where I saw it.
