Guest Rick Research Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Acquired this pair of silk-top armor Lieutenant-Colonel WW2 boards far far away in The Land Of Dixie on my recent grand tour. I haven't seen ANY Soviet officer boards "live" up here in Thah Noath for YEARS. Remember that the key to scanning braid patterns is to scan them SIDEWAYS and then afterwards turn the scan upright like this. Otherwise the patternss fill in and look like shredded wheat cereal!
Guest Rick Research Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 In all the years I've been hunting these, I've seen a lot of things holding the buttons on-- string, wooden match stick shafts, the little (and later) "miniature shoe laces" made for them. But these have what I guess are the original period steel wires-- short lengths with an upside down "U" in the middle-- to hold the loop on back of the button snugly under the boards' tongues. Must have scratched horribly on the surface of the Kitel or gimnastyorka surface cloth!
