Paul C Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I don't know when this picture was taken but I assume, due to his age in the picture that it was around 1920. He was born 1889. As can be seen he is in uniform. I can't tell if this is Czarist times or Soviet times. Any assitance is appreciated. I have posted the pic and a close up on his shoulder boards.
Ferdinand Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 The Soviets didn't have shoulder boards at that time, so it must be Czarist (pre-1917).
Guest Rick Research Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 That's a Tsarist "Gerb" (cockade) on his hat. Some sort of vehicle driver, in the leather suit?
Paul C Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 Interesting, so I guess he was in WWI with the Czar. Any quess on rank?
marcotk Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) Ok, I will have a guess on this even if I am not really "on the edge" regarding Tsarists uniforms! I see a little stripe on top so I'd say Gefreiter (Corporal) of the 3rd Auto-vehicles (The hemblem on the boards looks like this to me) Division or Brigade ? Edited August 30, 2009 by marcotk
