Igor Ostapenko Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 French newspapier . Can you translate part about Stephen Germano ?
TacHel Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Translation: If Philippe did not land on June 6th, at Omaha, his friend Stephen Ermano had related everything. Stephen, another veteran, passed away last year. Shortly after his death, Philippe carried out his last wish. Early in the morning, he advanced on Omaha Beach at low tide. Then, there, dispersed the ashes of his friend on the sand. "Steve" wished to rest among his own, these young comrades, who's blood, at one time, reddened the ocean here. Wow... As poignant as it gets.
TacHel Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 As for the 2 French medals, they're both "unofficial" commemorative medals. They were given to vets returning for the commemorative celebrations but were also readily available for purchase by tourists.

Roeland Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Hello gents, the first 2 are indeed unofficial. The veteran would probably wear the beret as on the picture when being present at the comemorative event. The U.S.A. medals are the pruple hart and the bronze star. It's always nice to have multiple items from a veteran. They often tell a great story about the wearer, even unofficial medals. kind regards, Roeland
