All I can make out is "...Gedenktag am 13.Okt. 1929 (Walter (?) Kettenmayer mit ... und futterl.)". In the meantime it seems the name could be "Lettenmayer" as well... Heiko hinted this could be Feldwebel-Leutnant or Offiziers-Stellvertreter because of the type of his medal bar which is in fact the one used by NCOs. Rank title would depend on what branch, so cannot say. Lovely handwriting (makes me feel young again)-- "Lagarde-Gedenktag am 13. Okt. 1929 Vater Lettenmayer mit Tochter u. Enkel." Ernst Lettenmayer born 1863 SecLt 15.06.85 PremLt 06.11.94 Hptm 19.09.00 Maj 07.03.00 OTL 01.10.13 Oberst 14.01.16 zD by March 1917 charakterisiert Generalmajor aD circa 1920 Served in various Bavarian infantry regiments. When the Great War began he was commander of Bavarian Jäger Battalion 2, with BMV4, 1905 Jubilee, and Bavarian XXIV Years Service Cross. He was involved in the bloody battle of Lagarde on 11 AUGUST 1914. Was on staff of Bavarian Inf Rgt 22 in May 1915 Commanded Bavarian RIR 17 29.08.-27.09.15 Commander of Bavarian Inf Rgt 13 23.05.16-15.03.17 but ended the war on zD status as a Kreischef in Gouvernement Namur. BMV3X 11.09.14 (undoubtedly for Lagarde) Crown to that-- what is visible under his overcoat-- 24.03.17 which he would have earned as CO of KB IR 13. The secret April 1916 Bavarian Rank List shows him with only the EK2 as another wartime award at that date.
