Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Here is the most recent shoulder badge for Auxiliary Police.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Changing tack a little bit, here are the spurs and fittings that are worn in full dress with the Strathcona Boots.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) This is the holster and magazine holder that they now use with full dress. I believe they were introduced in 1996 when the RCMP started using an automatic pistol instead of a revolver. This is the holster and magazine holder that is used since 1996 with service dress. Paul L Murphy Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Nicely unit marked on the back of the service holster.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 That's all for today. The rest of the collection should hopefully arrive on Thursday, only various holsters and leather items left, some of them quite old.
Mervyn Mitton Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Paul - what type of revolver are the holsters for ?
Paul L Murphy Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 Paul - what type of revolver are the holsters for ? Not sure with what they are currently issued, I need to check this out.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 The final box of stuff arrived today and it was packed full of belts, holsters and other belt gear. I will try to take photos over the weekend and get them posted here. The oldest item is from 1914 but most of it is 1950s to today.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Here is a pair of officer's leather leggings. They are undated but from about the 1930s to early 50s.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 Here is a WWII era Sam Brown belt. This piece is actually named to an officer in the RCASC but it came with the RCMP collection so I am keeping it together.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 An interesting bandolier that is dated 1941 with a maker mark for Johannesburg. The RCMP wore a bandolier with service dress from the 1930s to about the 1950s but I suspect that this probably belongs elsewhere and got mixed up in the collection. Mervyn, have you seen this type of bandolier before in South Africa ? http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126722904633.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-126722905332.jpg
Mervyn Mitton Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Paul, with the late date it shows the pattern continued for a long time. The British had several types of bandoliers in the Boer War - this being one of them - the ends of the cartridges protrude through. The Boers had a similar cross belt, but to fit the Mauser ammo.. I thinke we have one - will photograph and they can be compared. However, I don't want to spoil this valuable post - which I can see becoming the ' go to' for RCMP equipment. It was good that Craig agreed to 'pin' - at least we will be able to find-it.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 As promised, here are the remaining items from the collection. First up a 1914 dated leather belt which was made in Canada and has the snake type belt hook. This was the pattern worn by the NWMP.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 Here are the maker details. Next is a sword frog from the 1920s or so.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 A more recent sword frog looks like this next one.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 This is a RCMP Sam Browne belt in stripped order, ie nothing other than the belt and cross-strap.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 This is the Constable's ammunition case that was worn until 1996.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 This is a 1968 pattern holster. This type of holster featured a swivel mechanism on the reverse which allowed the holster to sit better when mounted on horseback.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 Here is the reverse, showing the swivel mechanism.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 Up until 1964 Mounted Officers (ie ranks from Inspector and above) wore a whistle on the cross strap of the Sam Browne belt. Here is a nice example of such a belt, with the holster and the officer pattern ammunition case. The officer pattern case has the closing flap coming from below, rather than the constable's pattern in one of the previous posts.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 Here is a close up of the ammunition case and the whistle. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-12673943996.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-1487-12673944094.jpg
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 This is a 1968 pattern combined handcuff and ammunition case.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 This is a nice post 1968 Constable and Sergeant's Sam Browne belt with holster, ammunition case and handcuff case. Note the angle of the holster on the belt since this was worn by a mounted trooper.
Paul L Murphy Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 Some closer photos of the component parts, first the holster.
