Herr General Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 An old veteran friend of mine is an ex RNAF Spitfire pilot. Great story, he escaped Nazi occupied Holland by bicycle to Belgium, went by train to Paris, arrested somewhere in Vichy France. Got out of jail and escaped to Switzerland. Traveled again by train through France and got on a ship in Portugal. The ship took him after a stop in Venezuela to the Netherlands Antilles. He stayed there for a while and went on to New York. From New York he boarded again a ship, this time to England. In London he joined the Dutch Army and was sent to Canada for Flight training! To cut a long story short. In 1944 he was shot down in his spitfire above Holland and became a POW. Liberated in 1945 and send back to England to recover. There he met a Johnny Coller. He remembers that Johnny had a DSO DFC and MiD. Does anyone have more information about Johnny?
JBFloyd Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 There's a DFC to an RAFVR Flying Officer to John Harold Coller (115590) of 10 (Conversion) Flight. In the London Gazette of 9 Feb 1943 (pg. 702) without citation. No Coller is listed under the RNAF.
