Piramida Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Looking through some of my grandfathers old papers I found this award document. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it was generally awarded for and how often? Unfortunately I can't find the medal. I have also attached a close-up of the signatures in case someone finds them interesting and can tell me something about the people. All the best, Ivan
JBFloyd Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 It's a Commemorative Medal for the Centennial of the Birth of Marshal Jose Caetano de Faria, 1855-1955. He was the commnder of the Brazilian Army during World War I. The medal was awarded by the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs in 1955. The criteria for such awards were very broad, so the recipient probably worked with someone high in the Ministry on a regular basis.
Piramida Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Thanks for the reply Jeff. My grandfather was Yugoslav ambassador to Brazil at the time so I'd guess that all heads of diplomatic missions got this medal at the time. Ivan
