Freiwillige
Captions on the back side of the portrait. All I can make out is: "Der Karlsruher Familie "zu dritt" mit den verwandten (...) Blut liebe (...) Gruesse fuer R. (...) Muenchen, im Februar 45. Der Gouverneur aus "Die Fahne". I'm not sure if I understood it correctly, maybe someone could give the full text. Thanks in advance!
Naxos
The text refers to the theater play (Bühnenstück) "Die Fahne" by Otto Emmerich Groh The image shows the actor (I don't know his name) playing the part of the Gouverneur General Gregor Werkonen at the Munich Theater, probably in 1945. The play was also made into an UFA movie with the title "Der Gouverneur" in 1939 with Willy Birgel as the Governor. Naxos
Funny, in 1945 the only Germans still wearing smart uniforms were actors. Edited March 16, 2010 by Naxos
