Chris Boonzaier Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 This was a small but nice find... The dent on the dogtag is strangely enough the exact size as a shrapnel ball! Not sure if thats what it was though... Dillmann was wounded by schrapnel in 1915...

Chris, the Bavarian Army museum has files on officers and men, and medical reports on wounds specifying the details of the wound, type (arty, gunshot, etc), where, and related details. If he was hit in the upper chest, that would go nicely with the suggestion the tag was hit by shrapnel.
