Chris Boonzaier
Hi, this is from a German doc, captured by the French, and in a group of papers belonging to a french officer... Any idea what A.V.O. could mean in this case? I assume it is a copy of the daily orders given to an attached FW detachment?
Bernhard H.Holst
Hello Chris: The penciled notation "A.V.O.FWerf" I read as "an Verbindungsoffizier Flammenwerfer" ( to liaison officer of flamethrowers). The pictured report is an activities/situation report (Taetigkeitsbericht)gathered by the "Nachrichtensammelstelle" or reports gathering point. The contents of which may have been deemed of interest to the subordinated flamethrower unit(s). Bernhard H. Holst
Chris Boonzaier
Hi, thanks, that would be a logical thought. I think the "A" had me thrown. All the best Chris
Chip
Hmmm. To me, it looks like "F West", which is also seen in the typed text below, referring to perhaps the location of a sap trench. Just another thought. Chip Edited July 4, 2010 by Chip
