    Hallo Gents,

I picked these two medals up from a young chap at the Hobby Club in Deva

today, he said he was 3 years in the LÈGION ÈTRANGÈRE with a Cavalry unit.

I asked him why he was selling his medals and he just shrugged his

shoulders and said he did not want them any more :banger:

I was under the impression it was a 5 year contract in the Lègion

he would not give me his name either, he had some insignias, four

in total and along with the medals and he was looking for 150 Euros,

far to high a price in my opinion, he walked away, but 20 mins

later came back and offered me the two medals for 30 Euro, I actually gave

him 40 Euro, and again tried to find out why he was getting rid of them

but he refused to tell.I will try and find out what unit emblem he was

    offering by looking online.

I may be mistaken, but he cannot have been THAT young? I think the Ex-Jugo may have been mid 90s? Thats when I got mine and I am no longer young :-(

maybe someone can correct me on that?

    Hi Chris,

I myself was 52 on August 11th, this chap looked anywhere between 25 - 35ish years of age. :(

    Very nice medals,

the "Légion étrangère" is very popular in France.

If the soldier was in a cavalery unit of the "Légion Étrangère", it was probably in the prestigious "1er Régiment de Cavalerie Étranger" (1st foreign cavalry regiment) because it is the only cavalry regiment of the Legion.

    Hi,

    3 thoughts...

    3Years means probably a deserter.

Should be a NATO or UN medal there

Medals should be mounted after being issued. They look like this just on the day they are awarded.

The Commemo is an early one. there were few variations back before they standardised them. I like these as oppoed to the ball and ring ones.

    Hi Chris,

My thoughts with regard his short service was that he might have

"cut his stick" or a medical discharge.

Please feel free to add pictures of your rack for comparison.

@ Andrè G thanks for the link, :jumping: very interesting, :jumping: the insignia he had, featured a snow capped mountain, a edelwiess,?? and two insignia were the round flaming grenade, I presume for the collar of the uniform, and a round silver coloured insignia he said was for the first company of his Unit.
