Hugh W. Brock Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Was going to send this to Williamson or von Bredow direct, but that has proved impossible. Anyway, according to Bredow's list, he does not have this badge recorded. It came with a group bought from Niemann including Silver and Bronze Sub Bars, EK2, etc. For all to use, please see if the info can get to those who can best use it. Oh well, apparently can't upload the photos here. If someone would be so kind as to tell me what to do (the system says the file is too big, but it is the normal size I use on my website, about 600x600pixels at 72ppi) or how to get in touch with Williamson. My email is brocksguns@bellsouth.net. Von Bredow does not have a computer. Hugh Brock

Peter BL Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 OK Gordon...thanks for letting me know. Looking forward to seeing the cap badge. KR...Peter
Gordon Williamson Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Hugh has forwarded me the images in question. The badge is indeed the correct badge for U-985, though this boat's insignia actually shows a Lion ( representing England) with a spear through its throat. On the version on the model the shaft of the spear is there, but not the point emerging through the other side. Probably omitted as there was no space at the lower part of the model to allow the spear head to be shown. With the slot through the conning tower it looks like this is a desk ornament intended to hold letters.
