    Greetings All.

I just purchased what I believe is a Knight of the Order of the Sun of PERU. I really know nothing about this medal. I would like to know:

    1. is this the Knight of the Order of the Sun of PERU?

    2. from what time period?

    3. is it called "Knight of the Order of the Sun of PERU"?

    4. what was it issued for?

    5. who was eligible to receive this medal/order?

    6. is this rare or common?

I have attached a photo to this post. It may not be all that clear, but it is the best I can do. It is the photo given by the seller of the medal. I do not have it yet.

So... any and all information would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

According to Werlich, this is the Order of the Sun of Peru (La Orden El Sol Del Peru). Created by General Jose de San Martin (liberator of Chile and Peru) on October 8, `81` as a reward to those individuals who aided him in his campaign. This Order is now awarded for military and civil merit and can be bestowed on foreigners. Comes in 5 classes.

    Hope this helps.

    Orden del Sol del Perú - Instituted: 8 October 1821, discontinued: 1825, re-established: 1921.

Awarded for exceptional achievements in civilian and military activities, in SIX classes (there was a 'with diamonds' version of the Grand Cross).

The one you have, Linas, is indeed the Knight class.
