P.F. Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Gentlemen, I have recently received this Red Cross. I think it is an original but would like others opinions. It is the first such cross i have owned and have never seen another in hand or in a book. I believe it to be a 2nd class decoration. Thank you Pierce
P.F. Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) It has a flat surface front and back. Edited September 1, 2010 by P.F.
Histaria Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 This style was authorized from 1922 through 1934, so technically it is Weimar and early Third Reich. Second Class is correct, with the First Class being worn on a neck ribbon. The Second Class is also found with a plain suspension ring and it has been suggested that those with the ball suspension were of later issue. Also, this award can be found in gilded silver or gilded bronze.
