Linasl
Greetings All. I just purchased (but have not received yet) what appears to be an 1820 Imperial Russian Medal - based on the Russian Cyrillic letters used. If you recognize this medal, I have several questions: 1. Is it Russian (or Bulgarian, Serbian, etc)? 2. What was it awarded for? 3. What is the significance of the year "1820"? 4. Who was eligible to receive it (military, civil, government, foreigners, etc.)? I have attached a low resolution photo to this post, but I have higher resolution (but not that great) photos of the front and back on PhotoBucket. Here is the link: http://s752.photobuc...201820%20Medal/ Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Take care. Linas
Claudius
Too hard to make out anything. Or read it. But from this fuzzy glance it looks more like a jeton. To be sure, what are the dimensions? Are there any maker marks on it? I look forward to seeing better photos.
Linasl
Hello Claudius. I will send better photos when I receive the medal. But I have never known a "jeton" to have a crown and loop (for ribbon suspension). Can you please explain? Thank you. Linas
Claudius
Hello Claudius. I will send better photos when I receive the medal. But I have never known a "jeton" to have a crown and loop (for ribbon suspension). Can you please explain? Thank you. Linas Jetons can have crowns and loops, or later outfitted with loops for ribbon suspension. There is certainly nothing unusual about a jeton with a crown on it. I found TWO examples on the GMiC forum alone. I'm sure there are many more. Reference books will have them as well. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5744&st=0&p=55920&hl=jeton&fromsearch=1&#entry55920 http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5240&st=0&p=52250&hl=jeton&fromsearch=1&#entry52250 But let's wait until you recieve it and get some really nice photos. Maybe someone here will be able to identify it. I look forward to your photos.
