Chris Boonzaier Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Here is an interesting photo taken in Berlin....
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 Unfortunately no indication of when it was... I think the G88 is from the photo studio... note how the bayonet is not properly on it....
Chris Dale Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Hi Chris, Great photo! Thanks for sharing it. I've seen photos of the Schutztruppe around this period (probably 1904-05) before showing bayonets that shouldn't be fitted to the rifles they had. But never seen one where it's not actually fixed on. Interestingly I've only seen photos of the G88 used by the Schutztruppe in these German photo studios, never seen one in Africa.... I'm sure they had the G88 out there, just never seen it done. Cheers Chris
piekenier Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 There were certainly GEW88 out there in DSWA .Saw one awhile ago that came back as WW1 souvenier from DSWA .Actually a Karbiner 88 (later version for S catridge) See image. Interesting bayonet your guy is wearing on belt.
Chris Boonzaier Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Of note is... between the trigger and the bolt.....
Chris Boonzaier Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 But never seen one where it's not actually fixed on. I Cheers Chris Indeed... but I have just noticed... he still has his regular one in the sheath... and it is the same one as the two guys below him! Wonder why he did not put it on?
