leigh kitchen Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) The King's Crown Full Dress badge of WOII Company Sergeant Majors, &, worn on three gold chevrons that of CQMS Colour Sergeants. As a King's Crown item, introduced post WWI with the resumption of the wearing of Full Dress by The Guards (in the case of The Welsh Guards the introduction rather than resumption of Full Dress for the regiment as it was raised on 26/2/1915 & had'nt a pre-war uniform to resume). Replaced by a St. Edward's Crown version sometime after 1952. A little wear & tear evident, but a nice badge, shown here at actual size. Edited January 23, 2011 by leigh kitchen
Mervyn Mitton Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 This should be good thread, Leigh. I shall look forward to seeing you enlarge on their history.
Paul L Murphy Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Here is the Queen's Crown version of the badge. And the smaller badge worn on mess dress.
leigh kitchen Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Nice, impressive badges, attractive items. I don't have much in the way of Welsh Guards stuff Merv, here's a link to a thread on a Welsh Guards Musician's cap: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=43771&st=0&p=404878&hl=+welsh%20+guards%20+cap&fromsearch=1&#entry404878

coldstream Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 A Great War silk post card to the Welsh Guards.
leigh kitchen Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 Nice little card, I have a few but not too many with insignia on, more the general flags & flowers types.
coldstream Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Leigh I fortunately have silk cards to all five of the Footguard Regiments but they are getting harder to find and expensive. Saw one to the Army Vetenary Corps go on ebay Uk recently for around £80!!!!!!!! Simon
