This insignia belongs to the Iraqi Navy, the naval forces of the Iraqi Armed Forces , formed in 1937 after the arrival of four river boats, the force developed in the sixties upon the arrival of the torpedo boats.

Iraqi naval force reached its peak during the Iran-Iraq war with a total of 5000 individual members. The Headquarters was in al Om-Qasr base in Basra with a fleet of 8 missile boats Iraq bought from the Soviet Union.

Now the Iraqi Navy is being re-formed and the number of affiliates is around 2000 people and expecting four warships from Italy, 1st of which was delivered on June 2009 and the remaining 3 are expected to be delivered during this year . Iraq has signed with the U.S. a contract to build four advanced warships which will be delivered at the end of 2011.
