Chris Boonzaier Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 For me maybe the greatest South African, a great General, a great statesman and a great Human Being. Louis Botha was returning to South Africa after the Treaty of Versailles. He was sick on the voyage and would die a month after his return. This Photo of the Ship is signed by Louis Botha, his Wife, His Son (Capt. Louis Botha), daughter and Secretary/Biographer Engelenberg. Also by two people (looks like "Innes").. It is a fantastic bit of South African history...
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Here is a page from an autograph book, Foch and Botha together with someone I cannot place..
Arthur R Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) A nice piece of Africana you have there, Chris. "J. Rose Innes" and "Jessie Innes" would no doubt have been Sir James Rose Innes and his lady - he was the Chief Justice of South Africa at the time, and had earlier been a cabinet minister in the Cape Colony. Mervyn Mitton Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 An important set of signatures. I particularly liked the early Union Castle ship - very impressive. Did you get this on your recent visit ?
