Chris Boonzaier
I always thought issue tunics with replaced, higher, collars (i.e. collars with 2 hooks) were officers or senior NCOs only. I recently saw a few low ranking dudes with obviously replaced higher collars... Was this allowed or just tolerated? Thanks Chris
Chip
Chris, I have seen this too and I would think it was just tolerated, especially when the soldier was buying his own uniform. Chip

Chip Really strange... the Prussian Army less strict on things like that than most modern armies.... can just see telling my Company Commander "Well... I just thought it looked better this way...." and what the result would have been... :-)
Chip
Chris, I think this was more the case for the so-called "walking out dress", where more latitude was given. You don't see much in the way of field photos with enlisted men wearing these collars. You do see it a lot in studio shots where they are wearing their "good" tunic.
