kapten_windu Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Hi Gentlemen, just found this picture from an article about The Museum of Kesultanan Jambi (a sultanate in Sumatra,Indonesia), the article said that this is from Turki Usmani (Turkey Ottoman) is it medjidie? which class?
drclaw Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Hello Kapten, What an interesting Medjidie! I've never seen one attached to a chain before. It's a shame the photo doesn't provide a size comparison and it's hard to tell from the light reflection whether the central medalion is gold or silver. It appears silver to me (which suggests 4th or 5th class) but that could just be the light reflection. Gavin
kapten_windu Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 thanks Gavin, i'll search more photos for comparisson.. The article writer and the museum keeper don't know about the name of this Medjidie, they just said that it is a medal given by Ottoman Empire..
Tim Tezer Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 It appears to be a Third Class (or possibly a Second Class separated from the breast star). The ribbon ring is for a neck ribbon, now attached to that chain from who knows where. Something has also been done to the connection between the badge and the crescent suspension piece - there is not supposed to be a strip of metal wrapped around the bottom point of the crescent. Tim
army historian Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Tim is right on - the band looks like an old repair. Cheers Captain Albert
kapten_windu Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 so do you think it has been modified for a wearing purpose?
Tim Tezer Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 so do you think it has been modified for a wearing purpose? I would just call it a repair.
