Mervyn Mitton Posted October 25, 2011 Share Posted October 25, 2011 This is an unusual medallion - silver and with marks I can't decipher, but may be US - this commemorates the period of time that Wiliam 3rd - of Holland - sat on the British Throne with his partner Queen Mary. The only time a joint Monarchy has existed in Britain. I can't work out why it was struck - perhaps it was part of a set commemorating British Kings and Queens ? paul wood Posted October 25, 2011 Share Posted October 25, 2011 The reverse showing Brittania Mervyn, It was part of a relatively recent set of medals depicting the Kings and Queens of England, one of these limited editions put out by a variety of private mints. It is however of somewhat better quality than the usual rubbish they produce. His nose is much more sympathetically portrayed than on contemporary medals.
