AlecH Posted December 4, 2011 Share Posted December 4, 2011 I've a press photograph of a artillery gun crew in action, firing in the Champagne, members of the crew are wearing bayonets, at first glance I thought they had S98nA Bayonets due to the bayonet length and the leather scabbard, studying the picture I noticed the cross guard has a S form, different to S98nA bayonets. Hitherto the only S.71 I have seen in WW1 photographs were being worn or carried by Landsturm of Landwehr men, usually far from the front, guarding railway bridges, and so on.
