Heer Need information on 3.Kompanie Kraftfahr-Ersatz Abteilung 3 Rathenow

I am in the process of researching my Grandfather military service. He entered service in the motorized replacement battalion in June of 1942.

I would be very interested in what engagements this battalion was involved in from that June of 1942 till June of 1943. The only other information I have about him is that he was sent to serve in the Interpreting division in Berlin Lichtenberg (Dolmetscherkompanie des Wehrkreises III) in June of 1943 and again in November that same year. His record does not say that this was continuous. This probably happened because my grandfather was very familiar with the United Staes having lived there from 1925 to 1939. I have been told by Deutshe Dienstelle WASt that there are no other records that have survived the war. My Mother tells me that my grandfather also served in combat in France where he was wounded and captured by the French and later escaped from the French POW camp and made his way back to Germany. This is what I am trying to verify. I am trying to determine in my grandfather could have been one of the 20,000 German soldiers that surrendered in Sept of 1944 to American Forces commanded by Major General Robert C Macon of the US ninth near Romorantin France. I would like to find out which French camps those German soldiers were sent to and how I can view a list of prisoners to see if my Grandfather is on any of them. I also have a picture of my grandfathers nephew standing next to Hans Traupe that I would like to verify.

Yes that's the same info I have found. The answer must be that he was transferred into another branch of service. That's the part of his military records that is missing. I'm trying to find out how he ended up in France in 1944.

I will post some pictures from his photo album that I hoping someone will recognize a location.
