sabrigade Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) Officers had their "own" dress code in the sense that they used military tailors for their uniforms, etc. I will post a picture soon of a group photograph which shows the variations of dress codes and headgear worn by them. The collar badges are rare and appear to have been worn shortly before the disbandment of the 1 SAMR according to Colin Owen. I have a photo album of a member of the SAMR and have never seen the collar badges being worn. Edited February 22, 2012 by sabrigade
sabrigade Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 A slouch hat as for the type worn by members of the 4th SAMR when they served during and after the German South West Africa campaign. They were used for policing tasks when the campaign ended.

The 1923 Dress Regs. mention collar badges for 1st SAMR (the only Regt still in existence at the time) which seems to support the Owens dates.
milhistry Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Nice cap. Interestingly they were issued a blue forage cap with various covers (white, drab, green/grey) for wear on various occasions. Extract from 1923 Dress Regs:

sabrigade Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) I spent time in December rearranging my SAMR display and collection as well as adding some items. I apologise if there are any repetitions of my previous posts regarding the SAMR. Edited January 8, 2013 by sabrigade

Chris Boonzaier Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 A horse brush which may have been captured during the German South West Africa campaign. Maybe Chris can shed some more light? Hi, possibly, but I dont think it is Military issue. You are sure it is Pvt Kemp's... with a bit of luck it could have been general Kemps!!! He was not far from there at the time! Are you home at the moment??

sabrigade Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Hi Chris, The items came from his grandson. The KA mark made me think along the KS line but is probably just a factory name. Rifleman Kemp actually deserted to join the 1st South African Infantry Brigade and was officially pardoned. I am back in South Sudan. Regards, Will
