JapanX Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Shaikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah became the first Arab to be awarded Grand Cordon of Rising Sun Order. The distinction is in recognition of Shaikh Jaber's significant contribution to promoting mutual understanding as well as political, diplomatic, and environmental ties between Kuwait and Japan.

I'll track down "The Sun" and "Taurus" as I'm a fan of historical movies if done well. Whatever you do, just don't watch Jacky Chan's recent '1911' movie on the Chinese Revolution - a meandering, disjointed, propagandist piece that somehow takes a fascinating period of modern history and manages to squeeze all the colour, interest and personality from it. This one sounds like another historical "masterpiece" from hollywood workshop Dream factory ... Indeed! P.S. Hope you'll like Sakurov's films.
JapanX Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 November 6, 2007 at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, Japan, His Imperial Majesty the Emperor Akihito, assisted by Yasuo Fukuda, the Prime Minister of Japan, bestowed the Grand Cordon of the order of the rising sun upon IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) President Diack. President Diack was awarded with Grand Cordon “in honor of his outstanding contribution to the diffusion and progress of the sports as well as to the successful realization of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka 2007”.
JapanX Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 A 90 year-old Japanese Canadian Shozo Ishikawa was conferred 5th class of the rising sun order. He was born in Shiga Prefecture in 1915 and moved to Vancouver in 1935. Since arriving in Toronto in 1949, Mr. Ishikawa devoted himself to the betterment of life for Japanese Canadians through his work in the Toronto Japanese Canadian Citizens Association's Issei Division, serving in various executive positions including its President. (“Issei” refers to first generation immigrants). In 1995 he was a recipient of the Ontario Volunteer Service Award, and in 2000 Mr. Ishikawa received a Special Commendation from the Consul-General of Japan for his work.

During last "seasonal awardings” (autumn 2011) approximately 4000 Japanese citizens were awarded with rising sun order and only 40 foreigners. 1% quota.
