Jef Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Hello Gents, Was wondering if someone coud ID this. Is it a medal, badge, sweetheart or souvenir. The back is plain with a makers mark J.R. Gaunt London. The medal wears the badge of the Army Ordnance Corps. Kind regards from Flanders, Jef
Mervyn Mitton Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Well - it certainly is medal mounted - and states 'For Faithful Service 1917-18'. I would say a commemorative for events at that time and possibly given by the Unit - or, perhaps a veterans' support unit. I hope that someone can make a positive identification ?
Odulf Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 It is the badge of the former Board of Ordnance / Ordnance Board. This was a reward badge, issued by the Army Ordnance Department / The Ministry of Munitions to workers in the Ammunitions Factories, to my knowledge it has nothing to do with the Army Ordnance Corps.
Jef Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 Thank you for the answers, so Odulf its a medal ? Jef
Odulf Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 What is a medal? It is an award (a token of appreciation or to commemorate services rendered) hanging from a ribbon, not considered to be an official (Governmental) decoration; however the recipient may have valued it.
