pierredelisle Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 It may be Swedish but perhaps it is for a German state. Any help gratefully received.
Claudius Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Doesn't look any German state medal that I can think of. Ribbon color/pattern is a non-match and the hanger system is not one I recognize. I don't think it was made for a german state.
pierredelisle Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 I suppose the Gothic script pointed me that way - but there is no prince, duke etc that fits the cipher. Also, why would a German state have medals made in Sweden... Is it possible the ribbon colours were originally Swedish blue and yellow and have faded?
Great Dane Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 It looks a lot like swedish (unofficial) medals for various athletics clubs - both the suspension type and the two coloured ribbon. /Michael
pierredelisle Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 Could the K stand for Klub ?
Great Dane Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) I guess that's possible. There's a fairly well-known swedish football club called "IFK Göteborg" whose colors are blue and white. But that could of course be a coincidence... We do have some Swedes in the forum who might be able to help more. /Michael Edited September 21, 2012 by Great Dane
kimj Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 My guess would be an early medal from "Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna", abrv.: IFK. I saw it translated as Sporting Society Comrades, but I think the litteral translation of kamraterna to comrades gives it too much of an eastern block feelling. A better one would be pals/buddies or sometihng like that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idrottsf%C3%B6reningen_Kamraterna /Kim
pierredelisle Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 Brilliant - I am sure you are right - thank you. I had searched for 'JFK' - you can imagine the results.....
