BWM ATTACHED TO THE 1ST.S.A. BGDE

hi all, i won off ebay a ww1 bwm named as DVR T.B.HOVELMEIER S.A.S.C ATT 1ST S.A.BGDE.i never seen this befor a medal named to a unit and named attached to another unit.has anyone come a cross this befor ?.paul

I have never seen this. I would always assume the SASC was attached to someone... hardly likely to go of waging war on their own... so SASC would have been (I would have thought) enough....

This is very unusual as the S.A.S.C. served in East Africa and the 1st SAI Brigade on the Western Front.

First time that I have seen this and I thought that I had medals to all the South African units that served in France!

This definitely warrants additional research.
