JapanX Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Usually all we have are these microscopic images from the Japan Mint
JapanX Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 Not what I called clear pictures Good thing there are some books with more or less nice close up`s Like this one
JapanX Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 This Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon is the first after 2003 piece that I saw at auction ;)
Dieter3 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I've seen the dark blues ones at auction before, they definitely claim a much higher price than the earlier style! Personally, I like the earlier versions.
JapanX Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 Personally, I like the earlier versions. And I really like the redesigned versions
Dieter3 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Don't get me wrong, they're not bad, the new ones! I'm just old fashioned, I guess! All the new stuff just lacks a certain "luxury" in my opinion.
JapanX Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 I'm just old fashioned, I guess! Undoubtedly!
Dieter3 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 One thing though, I definitely like to change from the rosette pin to the button for the modern awards! More classy in my ever-evolving opinions..... ;)
fukuoka Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 These are really expensive now, but in another 20 years, one would expect a good number of them to hit the market. Not sure if I'll be around at that time, but...
Dieter3 Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Not sure if I'll be around at that time, but... Now why would you say that, you're not that old! (are you...? ) Or were you thinking of leaving Japan at some point?
JapanX Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 These are really expensive now, but in another 20 years, one would expect a good number of them to hit the market. I'd say in another 5-7 years Remember how prices for 2003 sacred treasures droped in the last 4 years? Not sure if I'll be around at that time, but... You'll certainly will be around ... :)
JapanX Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 One thing though, I definitely like to change from the rosette pin to the button for the modern awards! More classy in my ever-evolving opinions..... His heart melted ...
fukuoka Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Well, 20 years is a long time no matter what age you start from. No one can escape the vagaries of destiny (whatever that may mean). I'm starting out (from today) at 47. We'll see if I make the remainder stretch out for a while. BTW, I haven't seen the new ST medals go down much in price. The lower class routinely goes for 30,000 yen here in Japan, which seems to be far overpriced. So in a few years these too will drop drastically, I imagine, when a large number hits the secondary markets.

Now same piece could cost around 30,000 and sometimes even less than that Cheers, Nock
Dana Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Some advice will be greatly appreciated. I have been gifted a boxed Sacred treasure medal and chest pin. I am interested in researching the recipient. Do you know if a comprehensive list of recipients exists? I am trying to get pics downloaded to show you, but having difficulty with this.

Strange choice of thread for this question Dana Anyway, your sacred treasure order is unresearchable. Even comprehensive list of recipients won't help, since all Japanese orders are unnumbered and uninscribed. Only sometimes you can find inscriptions (stickers) on the box with cavalier name and date of awarding. Another possibility to know the name of recipient - buy the order directly from the family.
