Guest Schutztruppe Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Can any body assist with info on the awarding of the Iron Cross to the German troops in Cameroon during the 1914 -18 war. I have seen a picture of some German colonial soldiers with what looks like home made Iron crosses on their uniforms. did they make them themselves??? please help.
HeikoGrusdat Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Hello,I know only the selfmade iron crosses for sewing on the uniform for the troops in Southwest...the only iron crosses for cameroon I know were awarded after the war as for other colonies it was the same procedure.... the award documents were mostly given by the german colonial ministry or something similar....
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 My recollection as well. I think pretty much all the colonials received their actual awards after-the-fact. However, I do believe you will find "war-time" documents??!
