Heer Edelweiss Gebirgsjaeger badge question

I found this badge recently, about 3cm high ,silver metal not aluminium .Seems to be very well made and real , possibly a collar badge of the 2nd Gebirgs Division ? Opinions anybody ?

The Germans did not really have Collar badges, can we see the back of this?

This of course could be a cap badge .I have searched high and low to find any reference or photos of it .I thought a good guess would be the 2nd Gebigdivision.Herewith photo of back .Only the solder remains where the pin was fitted and there is no maker mark visible.It is a struck badge ,excellent quality ,non magnetic.

I would say from the badge that it would be worn vertically. Very nice and strange.... could it be WW1 Austrian?
