Avitas Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 (edited) Hello again fellows, I've been picking up a few items recently and finally had some time to post some things on the site again. Here I have what I have deduced to be an unmarked B.H. Mayer stamped PAB in silver. I was doing some amateur identification and from what I could tell this is an original Mayer PAB with some period? repairs to the pin assembly, as well as a bent catch. A well worn mid to late war zinc example I would say. If anyone else can confirm the maker or correct me if I'm off that would be excellent. Here's the pics, Cheers, Pat http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-69675400-1354394030.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-29493800-1354394077.jpg Edited January 20, 2013 by Nick
Avitas Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 Here is the back with pin and catch assembly.
Avitas Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 Another couple shots for details. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-08134100-1354394254.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-31940100-1354394271.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-48738800-1354394297.jpg
Avitas Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 Here is a nice shot of the eagle, typical BH Mayer I believe. A side shot as well. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-35501600-1354394357.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-65991600-1354394421.jpg
Avitas Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 A nice view of the tank badge. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-87195500-1354394578.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-1212-0-48178800-1354394635.jpg
Avitas Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 Finally a big size close-up of the tank details. Again, any comments on the maker of this badge are welcome, hopefully I got it right as a B.H. Mayer! Thanks, Pat
J Temple-West Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Yes indeed, Pat....B H Mayer. Nice pick-up I notice that it has a touch of zinc pest, you may want to consider applying some vasline to affected areas. it will both stabalize and stop the spread of the corrosion.
Avitas Posted December 4, 2012 Author Posted December 4, 2012 Right on, I am getting better at ID'ing the makers. When I first started on the site back in 2006 I had so many fakes in my early collection that I learned a harsh lesson in looking at the details, not the dealer's story. It's thanks to this site and all the great help that I am now learning more and more about different designs and makers etc. in this exciting and sometimes heartbreaking hobby.About the zinc pest, how much vasoline should I add? Maybe apply a small amount to a cotton swab and apply that way? Thanks again,Pat
J Temple-West Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 About the zinc pest, how much vasoline should I add? Maybe apply a small amount to a cotton swab and apply that way? That should do the trick, Pat. Apply, rub off and reapply a week later.
