    Recommended Posts

    Hi all,

I am researching at the moment RNR officer George Edwin Morrell's service and if someone have seen, picture of him , copy of it would be great too.

Looks like he is from family that was full of Royal Navy traditions. I have his card and most key datums but if any of you have something extra, please let me know. Also as a Fusiliers collector, I am struggling to read and understand the Navy service cards. If someone wants to see that buzzle, please send me your email and I can provide his card for decodeing smile.png.

George was born at Belvedere, Kent (N Kensington, London, England ) on the 07.01.1875. His father was George Truman Morrell – English Navy Commander and explorer (expedition up the Niger River aboard HMS Investigator). His uncle Arthur Morrell was Rear-Admiral of Royal Navy. Also his grandfather served with the Royal Navy and received early Antartic medal.

George was appointed to the rank Engineer Lieutenant on the 25th February 1902.
    1917 Engineer Lieutenant, RNR
    1923 Engineer Lieutenant-Commander, RNR
15th November 1923 Retired on the rank Lieutenant-Commander.

George was married with the Edith A Morrell (Edith Amelia Burdett ) on March 1915 at Windsor Berkshire Surry.
Child – Jack Edward Morrell (1915-2001).
George died at Wimbledon, Surrey 15th June 1935.

From reading his employment and training course material it loks like he was in charge of testing ships. Taking them on their first voyege & doing up reports on them.

Also it looks like he was the district deputy controller for auxillery ship building.

    Kind Regards,

    Noor
