Erich - the MBE and the OBE are identical - apart from a light gilding on the OBE. This wears off very easily with rubbing -

however, I can see traces of gold on the edges, so I think an OBE. The white line in the middle of the ribbon indicates a military award.

The award is in silver - and at the top of the ribbon it is stamped 'sterling'. This is the 2nd issue - the first had the figure of Britania.

These early ones were not given out with the frequency of today's awards. Hope this helps. Mervyn
